This is a courtesy translation of the German privacy policy for the convenience of English-speaking users. In case of any discrepancy, the German version is legally binding.

2. Data protection in the "Cigarfriend" app
Cigarfriend is designed to work entirely locally. All content you create in the app — your cigar collection, stock quantities, journal entries, ratings, notes and photos of cigar bands — is stored exclusively on your device (Apple SwiftData).
None of this data is transmitted to me as the provider, or to any third party. The app contains no analytics, tracking or advertising SDKs and never establishes an internet connection to process your data. Band recognition runs entirely through Apple's Vision framework directly on your device (on-device OCR) — here too, photos or text never leave your device.
2.1 Camera
The app requests iOS camera access permission the first time you attempt a scan. This access is used solely to take a photo of the cigar band in order to suggest brand, vitola, country of origin and strength. The photo is stored, downsized, in the app's local database on your device and is never transmitted to me or any third party. The legal basis is the consent you grant in the iOS permission dialog (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
2.2 Photo library
As an alternative to the camera, you can select a photo via Apple's built-in "PhotosPicker". In this case the app only receives the specific image you explicitly selected, not access to your entire photo library.
2.3 Retention and deletion
Your data remains stored until you delete it within the app yourself or uninstall the app — uninstalling removes all locally stored data from your device. If you have automatic device backups enabled in your iOS system settings (e.g. iCloud or Finder backup), the app's data may be included as part of that general device backup; this is governed by Apple's privacy terms or those of your chosen backup location, not by this policy.
Via “Data & Backup” in the app's settings, you can also create a backup file yourself (containing all humidors, cigars, journal entries, humidity packs and band photos) or CSV files of your journal and humidor. These files are only created at your explicit request and are saved to, or shared with, whatever destination you choose in the iOS dialog (e.g. iCloud Drive, Files, Mail). They remain there even after you uninstall the app, until you delete them yourself. I do not receive a copy; the chosen storage location is governed by its own privacy terms.
2.4 Your rights
Since all processing takes place exclusively on your device and I have no access to any of your content, you exercise your rights to access, rectification and erasure directly within the app (editing or deleting entries, uninstalling the app). For any questions, you can reach me at any time at the email address above. Independently of this, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
3. Privacy when visiting this website (cigarfriend.de)
This website does not use cookies, analytics services or embedded third-party content (e.g. social media plugins). No form data is collected.
When you visit this website, the hosting provider's web server automatically and technically processes so-called server log files transmitted by your browser — typically IP address, date and time of the request, page requested, referrer URL, and browser and operating system information. This serves to ensure stable and secure operation of the website (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest) and is not combined with other data sources.
4. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy will be updated as soon as the app or this website changes in a way that is relevant to data protection — for example if cloud sync or a user account is introduced. The current version is always available at this address.
