Frequently Asked Questions

Band recognition gives no result, or the wrong one — is that a bug?

Not necessarily. Recognition works best with sharp, well-lit photos of the band. Faded, damaged or very rare bands can make recognition unreliable or cause it to return nothing at all — in that case Cigarfriend shows you the empty form so you can simply enter brand, vitola, country and strength by hand. A confirmed or corrected entry also helps recognition if you photograph the same cigar again later.

Does Cigarfriend need an internet connection?

No. All recognition happens on-device using Apple's Vision framework, and all your data (humidor stock, journal entries, photos) is stored exclusively on your device. There is no account and no server connection. Details in the privacy policy.

How do I change the app's language?

Cigarfriend automatically follows your iPhone's system language (German or English). Change it under iOS Settings → General → Language & Region.

Can I back up my data or move it to a new device?

Yes. In Settings (gear icon at the top left of the humidor), under “Data & Backup”, you can create a complete backup file containing all your humidors, cigars, journal entries, humidity packs and band photos. Save it to iCloud Drive, for example; on a new device or after reinstalling, “Restore Backup” brings everything back. A regular iPhone backup (iCloud or via computer) also includes the app's data.

Can I open my journal in Excel or Numbers?

Yes, also under Settings → “Data & Backup”: the CSV export creates one spreadsheet for your journal and one for your humidor. The CSV files are meant for your own analysis — to move your data to another device, please use the backup, as CSV files can't be imported back.

I found a bug or have a feature request — where do I report it?

Just email sebastian@cigarfriend.de — ideally with your iPhone model, iOS version and a short description of what happened.
